Release

Motivation

In the past I have prototyped a lot of games, but I never really publish any of them, so I decided to break out of that cycle and come up with something that I can show in a kind of finished state.

Assets

  • I got access to all of kenney assets in my itch.io library somewhere around last year, so I decided to go trough them and see which set of assets I would like to use to make some prototypes, after browsing for a while and getting a lot of ideas of things I wanted to make I ended up deciding to go with something that would not prove to difficult and that I could see trough the end and finish it, so that’s why I went with the 1-bit platformer pack.

  • I made all the music in FL studio using mostly an 8bit soundfont and the default FL studio plugins

  • The sound effects where made using famitracker

Design

  • In the beginning most of the design ideas from this game where just things that got to my mind at random intervals of pseudo creativity while throwing stuff around and seeing what stuck and what didn’t, and also at the same time trying to figure out how much mileage I could get from the tileset itself, without adding any more sprites.
  • After a while I had people actually testing my game and the design became more around balancing some specific areas or environmental hazards.
  • No actual mechanics other than moving and jumping where implemented to keep the game as simple as possible just for the sake of me actually finishing it, instead of leaving behind another unfinished prototype.

Thanks

Thanks to my extremely dedicated testing team
